5月6日 少年中国说（梁启超 于 1900年2月10日） 日本人之称我中国也，一则曰老大帝国，再则曰老大帝国。是语也，盖袭译欧西人之言也。呜呼！我中国其果老大矣乎？梁启超曰：恶，是何言！是何言！吾心目中有一少年中国在。
欲言国之老少，请先言人之老少：老年人常思既往，少年人常思将来。惟思既往也，故生留恋心；惟思将来也，故生希望心。惟留恋也，故保守；惟希望也，故进取。惟保守也，故永旧；惟进取也，故日新。惟思既往也，事事皆其所已经者，故惟知照例；惟思将来也，事事皆其所未经者，故常敢破格。老年人常多忧虑，少年人常好行乐。惟多忧也，故灰心，惟行乐也，故盛气。惟灰心也，故怯懦；惟盛气也，故豪壮。惟怯懦也，故苟且；惟豪壮也，故冒险。惟苟且也，故能灭世界；惟冒险也，故能造世界。老年人常厌事，少年人常喜事。惟厌事也，故常觉一切事无可为者；惟好事也，故常觉一切事无不可为者。老年人如夕照，少年人如朝阳；老年人如瘠牛，少年人如乳虎；老年人如僧，少年人如侠；老年人如字典，少年人如戏文；老年人如鸦片烟，少年人如泼兰地酒；老年人如别行星之陨石，少年人如大洋海之珊瑚岛；老年人如埃及沙漠之金字塔，少年人如西伯利亚之铁路；老年人如秋后之柳，少年人如春前之草；老年人如死海之潴为泽，少年人如长江之初发源：此老年与少年性格不同之大略也。梁启超曰：人固有之，国亦宜然。 梁启超曰：伤哉，老大也！浔阳江头琵琶妇，当明月绕船，枫叶瑟瑟，衾寒于铁，似梦非梦之时，追想洛阳尘中春花秋月之佳趣；西宫南内，白发宫娥，一灯如穗，三五对坐，谈开元、天宝间遗事，谱霓裳羽衣曲；青门种瓜人，左对孺人，顾弄孺子，忆侯门似海珠履杂遝之盛事；拿破仑之流于厄蔑，阿刺飞之幽于锡兰，与三两监守吏或过访之好事者，道当年短刀匹马，驰骋中原，席卷欧洲，血战海楼，一声叱咤，万国震恐之丰功伟烈，初而拍案，继而抚髀，终而揽镜。呜呼！面皴齿尽，白发盈把，颓然老矣。若是者舍幽郁之外无心事，舍悲惨之外无天地，舍颓唐之外无日月，舍叹息之外无音声，舍待死之外无事业，美人豪杰且然，而况于寻常碌碌者耶？生平亲友，皆在墟墓，起居 饮食，待命于人，今日且过，遑知他日，今年且过，遑恤明年，普天下灰心短气之事，未有甚于老大者。于此人也，而欲望以拏云之手段，回天之事功，挟山超海之意气，能 乎不能？ 呜呼！我中国其果老大矣乎？立乎今日，以指畴昔，唐虞三代，若何之郅治；秦皇 汉武，若何之雄杰，汉唐来之文学，若何之隆盛；康乾间之武功，若何之烜赫；历史家 所铺叙，词章家所讴歌，何一非我国民少年时代良辰美景赏心乐事之陈迹哉。而今颓然 老矣，昨日割五城，明日割十城，处处雀鼠尽，夜夜鸡犬惊，十八省之土地财产，已为 人怀中之肉，西百兆之父兄子弟，已为人注籍之奴，岂所谓“老大嫁作商人妇”者耶？ 呜呼！凭君莫话当年事，憔悴韶光不忍看，楚囚相对，岌岌顾影，人命危浅，朝不虑夕，国为待死之国，一国之民为待死之民，万事付之奈何，一切凭人作弄，亦何足怪。 梁启超曰：我中国其果老大矣乎？是今日全地球之一大问题也。如其老大也，则是 中国为过去之国，即地球上昔本有此国，而今渐渐灭，他日之命运殆将尽也；如其非老大也，则是中国为未来之国，即地球上昔未现此国，而今渐发达，他日之前程且方长也。欲断今日之中国为老大耶？为少年耶？则不可不先明国字之意义。夫国也者何物也？有土地；有人民；以居于其土地之人民而治其所居之土地之事；自制法律而自守之，有主权，有服从，人人皆主权者，人人皆服从者。夫如是斯谓之完全成立之国。地球上之有完全成立之国也，自百年以来也。完全成立者，壮年之事也；未能完全成立而渐进于完全成立者，少 年之事也。故吾得一言以断之曰：欧洲列邦在今日为壮年国，而我中国在今日为少年国。 夫古昔之中国者，虽有国之名，而未成国之形也。或为家族之国，或为酋长之国， 或为诸候封建之国，或为一王专制之国，虽种类不一，要之其于国家之体质也，有其一 部而缺其一部。正如婴儿自胚胎以迄成童，其身体之一二官支，先行长成，此外则全体 虽粗具，然未能得其用也。故唐虞以前为胚胎时代，殷周之际为乳哺时代，由孔子而来 至于今为童子时代，逐渐发达，而今乃始将入成童以上少年之界焉。其长成所以若是之 迟者，则历代之民贼有窒其生机者也。譬犹童年多病，转类老态，或且疑其死期之将至 焉，而不知皆由未完全未成立也。非过去之谓，而未来之谓也。 且我中国畴昔，岂尝有国家哉，不过有朝廷耳。我黄帝子孙，聚族而居，立于此地 球之上者既数千年，而问其国之为何名，则无有也。夫所谓唐、虞、夏、商、周、秦、汉、魏、晋、宋、齐、梁、陈、隋、唐、宋、元、明、清者，则皆朝名耳。朝也者，一家之私产也；国也者，人民之公产也。朝有朝之老少，国有国之老少，朝与国既异物， 则不能以朝之老少而指为国之老少明矣。文、武、成、康，周朝之少年时代也；幽、厉、桓、赧、则其老年时代也。高、文、景、武，汉朝之少年时代也；元、平、桓、灵，则其老年时代也。自馀历朝，莫不有之，凡此者，谓为一朝廷之老也则可，谓为一国之老 也则不可。一朝廷之老且死，犹一人之老且死也，于吾所谓中国者何与焉。然则，吾中国者，前此尚未出现于世界，而今乃始萌芽云尔。天地大矣，前途辽矣，美哉，我少年中国乎！ 玛志尼者，意大利三杰之魁也。以国事被罪，逃窜异邦，乃创立一会，名曰少年意 大利。举国志士，云涌雾集以应之，卒乃光复旧物，使意大利为欧洲之一雄邦。夫意大 利者，欧洲第一之老大国也，自罗马亡后，土地隶于教皇，政权归于奥国，殆所谓老而濒于死者矣，而得一玛志尼，且能举全国而少年之，况我中国之实为少年时代者耶？堂堂四百余州之国土，凛凛四百余兆之国民，岂遂无一玛志尼其人者。 龚自珍氏之集有诗一章，题曰《能令公少年行》，吾尝爱读之，而有味乎其用意之所存。我国民而自谓其国之老大也，斯果老大矣；我国民而自知其国之少年也，斯乃少 年矣。西谚有之曰：“有三岁之翁，有百岁之童。”然则国之老少，又无定形，而实随 国民之心力以为消长者也。吾见乎玛志尼之能令国少年也，吾又见乎我国之官吏士民能 令国老大也，吾为此惧！夫以如此壮丽浓郁翩翩绝世之少年中国，而使欧西、日本人谓 我为老大者何也？则以握国权者皆老朽之人也。非哦几十年八股，非写几十年白摺，非 当几十年差，非捱几十年俸，非递几十年手本，非唱几十年诺，非磕几十年头，非请几十年安，则必不能得一官，进一职。其内任卿贰以上，外任监司以上者，百人之中，其五官不备者，殆九十六七人也，非眼盲，则耳聋，非手颤，则足跛，否则半身不遂也。 彼其一身饮食步履视听言语，尚且不能自了，须三四人在左右扶之捉之，乃能度日，于此而乃欲责之以国事，是何异立无数木偶而使之治天下也。且彼辈者，自其少壮之时， 既已不知亚细、欧罗为何处地方，汉祖、唐宗是那朝皇帝；犹嫌其顽钝腐败之未臻其极， 又必搓磨之，陶冶之，待其脑髓已涸，血管已塞，气息奄奄，与鬼为邻之时，然后将我 二万里山河，四万万人命，一举而畀于其手。呜呼！老大帝国，诚哉其老大也。而彼辈者，积其数十年之八股、白摺、当差、捱俸、手本、唱诺、磕头、请安，千辛万苦，千苦万辛，乃始得此红顶花翎之服色，中堂大人之名号，乃出其全副精神，竭其毕生力量，以保持之。如彼乞儿，拾金一锭，虽轰雷盘旋其顶上，而两手犹紧抱其荷包，他事非所顾也，非所知也，非所闻也。于此而告之以亡国也，瓜分也，彼乌从而听之，乌从而信之。即使果亡矣，果分矣，而吾今年既七十矣八十矣，但求其一两年内，洋人不来，强盗不起，我已快活过了一世矣。 若不得已，则割三头两省之土地，奉申贺敬，以换我几个衙门；卖三几百万之人民作仆为奴，以赎我一条老命，有何不可，有何难办。呜呼！今之所谓老后、老臣、老将、 老吏者，其修身、齐家、治国、平天下之手段，皆具于是矣。“西风一夜催人老，凋尽 朱颜白尽头。”使走无常当医生，携催命符以祝寿，嗟乎痛哉！以此为国，是安得不老 且死，且吾恐其未及岁而殇也。 梁启超曰：造成今日之老大中国者，则中国老朽之冤业也；制出将来之少年中国者，则中国少年之责任也。彼老朽者何足道，彼与此世界作别之日不远矣，而我少年乃新来 而与世界为缘。如僦屋者然，彼明日将迁居地方，而我今日始入此室处。将迁居者，不 爱护其窗栊，不洁治其庭庑，俗人恒情，亦何足怪。若我少年者，前程浩浩，后顾茫茫，中国而为牛、为马、为奴、为隶，则烹脔鞭箠之惨酷，惟我少年当之；中国如称霸宇内，主盟地球，则指挥顾盼之尊荣，惟我少年享之，于彼气息奄奄，与鬼为邻者，何与焉？ 彼而漠然置之，犹可言也；我而漠然置之，不可言也。使举国之少年而果为少年也，则 吾中国为未来之国，其进步未可量也；使举国之少年而亦为老大也，则吾中国为过去之 国，其澌亡可翘足而待也。故今日之责任，不在他人，而全在我少年。少年智则国智， 少年富则国富，少年强则国强，少年独立则国独立，少年自由则国自由，少年进步则国 进步，少年胜于欧洲则国胜于欧洲，少年雄于地球则国雄于地球。红日初升，其道大光；河出伏流，一泻汪洋。潜龙腾渊，鳞爪飞扬；乳虎啸谷，百兽震惶。鹰隼试翼，风尘吸 张；奇花初胎，矞矞皇皇。干将发硎，有作其芒。天戴其苍，地履其黄。纵有千古，横有八荒。前途似海，来日方长。美哉我少年中国，与天不老；壮哉我中国少年，与国无 疆！ “三十功名尘与土，八千里路云和月。莫等闲白了少年头，空悲切。”此岳武穆《满江红》词句也，作者自六岁时即口受记忆，至今喜诵之不衰。自今以往，弃哀时客之名，更自名曰少年中国之少年。 Bridge to Terabithia

可是，像我这样有那么点迟钝的人，是什么样的感觉呢？1：大脑持续紧张；比如对“深海潜藏的外星人”这个问题，今天听说他们是“友善”的，可是明天，我还来不及好好睡一觉，就得考虑“他们是宇宙蝗虫，会侵占、掠夺我们的资源”这种观点。不要以为我小题大做，就算1+1=?的问题，每个人虽然都可以“不假思索”的回答，但它也是耗费脑细胞的！2：心情焦虑烦躁；不用解释了吧，你可以想想，一个人看多了《害客帝国》那样的片子，晚上会做什么梦。天天睡不好觉，能不烦躁嘛！3：暴力倾向；你不明白？建议看看最新影片《斯巴达300勇士》。也罗嗦了不少了，我真正想抱怨的，是今天的信息垃圾！
我们生活在人类史上科技最发达的咨询时代，现在，中国中型城市的一名小学生，就有充分的机会接触电脑，还有网络！他们无一例外的被老师和社会灌输着这样的思想“计算机和网络即将或已经带领人类完成了最近一次革命，他们大大提高了社会生产力”，还有一些社会现象，如“用人单位总把计算机技术当作非常关键的工作要求”，这所有的一切，都把人们引向计算机和网络，好像他们是天堂之路，被鲜花和欢乐充斥着。没有一名教师会在他的学生第一次接触电脑之前，对其进行警告，而我认为这是非常必要的，应该让他们了解：It's too powerful, it's dangerous too, if u can not control yourself, u will lost yourself! 仿佛希腊神话中索非亚公主项链上的宝石，它可以让你成为世界上最美丽的公主，前提是你能够控制自己不被附着在宝石里的妖精吸取魂魄！并不是人人都可以任意接触计算机和网络的，需要一定的心理素质才行，因为网络上的信息垃圾太多了！！！对于“信息垃圾”的定义范围，小人不在这里讨论了，怕被人笑，嘿嘿。不过那应该是因人而异的。
这部电影，对我来说，是好多年来不曾见过的一颗最耀眼的宝石。我每天被各种电子垃圾充斥，发现她光芒四射时的感觉，是无法用语言形容的！就好像沙漠里的旅人，已经被炎炎烈日烤得奄奄一息，马上就要在不知不觉中沉沦下去了（无痛苦的腐朽），突然被人灌了一口水，这一口水，不仅仅挽回了一条性命，他使我恢复了各种感觉，生的意义、对绿色的渴望，活力.......
这部片子的广告宣传会说“书中的角色充满想像力：会走路的树精，戴着帽子的海獭，会飞行的小怪物和快如闪电的铁甲骑士。导演，出生于匈牙利的加博尔·库斯伯，做过多年的动画师，是《辛普森一家》的动画主管......”,只是技术，永远做不出一流的电影，幻想的情节永远不会比真实的生活更能打动人心！在我眼中这部片子的核心是故事，一个男孩和一个女孩的友情为中心，家人的亲情，师生的友情为辅助，一群普通人演绎的一件平凡却感人肺腑的故事！与各类所谓的大片不同，片子里面没有明显的正义、邪恶，更没有坏蛋与英雄。一切都是2个孩子眼中的事物----秘密的童话王国，从未露面的黑暗魔王，被小狗吓跑的巨人怪，金盔金甲的特雷比西亚战士......而所有的这一切，又是以这2个孩子为中心，一个王子，一个公主！我也说不清为什么2个孩子做游戏，会深深的感动着我。当我看这部片子时，就仿佛住在他们家隔壁，仿佛能听到他们在一起嬉笑玩耍，我能和他们一起快乐！
我看这部片子前没看内容介绍，所以当听到那个噩耗的时候，我几乎和Jess一样感觉----不能接受，我的反映比他还糟糕，我张着嘴，脑子里一片空白！Leslie这个角色，是至今为止最符合我心中公主形象的影视角色，而公主应该永远幸福的和她所爱的王子生活在一起才对呀，再不济，也就是暂时被父亲或魔王关在城堡里，但也会被王子救出来的哈！Leslie的厄运来得太突然了，以至于Jess不能接受，在和父母一起致意的时候，他对音乐老师说的话就像Leslie还活着，之后他也总是沉沉闷闷的，直到在教室里，因为后面那家伙挑衅，打架被那个大嘴女老师开导，那是Leslie出事后他第一次流泪。为什么之前没流泪呢？是不伤心吗？不是，因为当人受到突然又强烈的打击时，那一滴泪会被悬起来，网上很多描述了，类似《一滴眼泪要用多久才会落下》；后来在林子里面摔跤，躺在父亲怀里，是第二次流泪。再后来，一切就向好的方向发展了！我不知道这样的结局是否正常，不过如果是我，绝不会那么坚强的！也许年纪小健忘，也许美国的优秀青年都这么不拘小节！
怎么说呢，因为这个结局，这个片子这2天我看了10多遍！换一个结局，就不会这么吸引我了吧！
其实，演妹妹May小演员也演得非常好。乱七八糟，不晓得自己说什么。有空看一看吧，呵呵。

 12月31日 祝自己新的一年快快乐乐，健健康康，万事如意今天，挺高兴。^_^ 公司吃年饭。内部邮件早通知了，可我这几天 在公司就忙项目，回家 又想着学校的考试，竟想不起看一看邮箱。加之鼻炎、咽炎都冒了出来，再怎么样也想不起这事儿来了！下午下班，我有点发热，心里是急着回家的，可发现打卡钟响过，公司仍没一个人有离开的意思，第六感让我继续在座位上敲打键盘。不久藏伟胜招呼我收拾准备，我才知道今天公司有安排，心里暗自庆幸没有下班就拎包跑路，闹出笑话！ 在淮海路一个叫“醉美”的地方定了两桌，席间得知包厢都是去年的那个，27个人。我才到公司2个礼拜，能叫出名字的不到5人，就老实地在藏伟胜旁边坐着。 我到的略早，那边桌上没人，这边坐了5、6位，大家随便聊着，我只听的藏伟胜、周经理和“冬瓜”大侃股票。原来中国股市那么牛气的，全球都低迷，中国股指能独涨数百点！好像大家都赚了钱，我也有些莫名的快乐，呵呵，快乐也能传染的哈。然后藏伟胜点菜，渐渐人多起来，位子都坐满的时候，由经理提议，大家先举一次杯，安慰06年的辛劳，预祝07年的美好。然后就开吃，呵呵，感觉有点不同，以前常常是先有几位领导讲讲话的；也许因为大家都年轻吧！这个公司，是藏伟胜他们5个同学办的，领导都是我的同龄人，至于员工，有几个和我差不多，更多的是那种 要我做他们哥哥都会让我觉着自己太老的年轻人。想起刚离开的那家单位，真是一个敬老院，一个青年团，这里多的就是蓬勃的生机！（偏了偏了，以后下笔都以记叙为主，不做评论） 美食是流水一样的上，筷子象风一样的舞。很快菜就被消灭了十之八九，越来越多的餐具被放下的时候，便有那活泼的人儿又端起酒杯......想不到最先要斗酒的竟是两位红颜！洪梅和另一位（抱歉没记下名号）大嗓门姑娘作为我们这桌的代表，跑另一桌敬酒去了。接着就是你来我往的啤酒攻事。我发现，公司里面能喝酒的人真多，尤其几位女生。酒事就不多讲了，中国人都知道。不晓得喝了多少，反正到处都是空酒瓶子，这时先哲用纸袋装了许多纸头给我们抽奖。一等奖是创新的音箱，二等奖不记得了，三等奖是1G的U盘，其他每人一份纪念奖，是个电暖手袋。对于博彩，若干年前我以为每个人中500万的几率是均等的，而现在，我宁愿相信那些中奖的幸运儿，从他们出生，那些奖就已经在等他们啦！而我，自从一次买了600元福利体彩，全军覆没之后，我就知道自己决不是那种能中500万的主儿！我摸了一张，果不其然，纪念奖。生活中有许多细小变数，简单也无多大意义，却能让被它影响的人回味无穷。今晚我就碰上一件，所有人摸一个纸头后，袋子中竟还胜2枚，而此时尚有一个3等奖藏而未漏......也就是说，剩下2枚中有1枚是3等奖的U盘。大家让红梅先抽，50%的几率，结果没抽到。因为我是新人，剩下一枚让我抽，打开看真是U盘，虽然价值不多，却实在是个彩头。我很开心，一口气喝了2大杯啤酒。我可是好多年没喝酒了！这时候，我真的很开心！ 还有件事要记。一等奖的音箱应该是被某位同事抽到了。不过他捐出来搞气氛，谁愿意喝的酒多，就奖给谁。那样的酒杯，一瓶倒不满2杯，竟然从8杯开始叫！更没想到最高的10杯是秋月喊出来的。其实她只是随便讲讲，就被人嚷出来了。秋月，湖北姑娘，个子不高，却是直爽侠义的性格，也是我们这桌上拼酒的主力。秋月拿着酒杯对我们讲，她今晚特别高兴，其实今天是她的生日......闻的此言，一片哗然。于是大嗓门姑娘张罗着找人替酒，还没怎么说，马上出来5个人替了5杯下去。我们纷纷在旁边开“冬瓜”玩笑，说人品好的就有人替酒，“冬瓜”人品太差，只能自己独当！ 我喜欢这样的沟通方式，简单，直接，有效。我竟然在台湾老先生开的IT公司待了2年半......一个总想着改变产品名称和界面的老板；一个让我去找能把ASP页面转换成ASP.NET页面的技术经理；一个丝毫不懂技术，每次开会能花半个小时歌颂老板和技术经理，再花半个小时表扬没有迟到的员工的老太太......天啊，难怪我现在象个老头！ 顺便写下24号晚上，平安夜。在绫子的安排下，我们在南京路上练摊，卖帽子和充气棒。竟然有人跑过来问我们是哪个学校的。嘿嘿，俺可都30啦！得意，俺们回答是财大的，我都不知到财大在哪儿！我实在不好意思扯开嗓子叫卖，绫子就安排我给充气棒打气。俺这人不善言辞，却善于出力，决不作假，喜欢为大家做贡献。开始我们有5个人，陆陆续续有人给绫子打电话，陆陆续续有人加入我们，9点多结束的时候，已经有11个人了，令我郁闷的是，一群刚毕业的小孩儿。哎，现在许多QQ群，社团，都没有我的位置啦，可怎么办哦！吃南京路上的小尾羊火锅，等了半个多钟才有位置。坐下后，绫子给我们介绍她男朋友，嘿嘿，看来那天最高兴的就是她啦。菜上来了，几个大男孩不停白呼，我自认为比他们大了一个年龄段，不愿讲话，闷头吃菜！11点多结束，没了地铁，打车回家，郁闷，又超支了！ 11月29日 也许霉运到头了好长时间没写自己的生活了，没了愿望。因为被信任的“亲戚”背叛，自己惨不忍睹，心就休眠了一阵！快三个月了吧。前阵子朋友问候了一下，干涸的心田得到灌溉，不过杯水车薪，很快又萎盹了。现在好象有些复苏的迹象，情不自禁又有了来这里写写画画的想法。（当然有原因，就不写在这里了
 ）我这个人就是缺乏定力，情绪太容易受别人的影响。以后要注意了，要注意呀！
今天离开公司了，手续倒也快捷。2年半的生活，还是有点感情的，心里竟然莫名的有些失落。虽然觉着老板（真老了，大概快50吧）对IT一窍不通，根本就是一相情愿的在那里赔本赚吆喝，可想想我这两年来总是偷懒，而老板对此毫无怨言......哎，虽然薪水低，还欠了我1年的公积金，可我还是不能说公司亏待了我。

I will be home at labor day, be back at 5.5 for my normal classes. so it will be another long time between this text and the next one. I did some reading, int fact, I read text in my textbook every morning after i get up. I am building up the habit of reading English, morning or evening. I wish I can think with English someday, it's suggested by my ever teachers and I know it will realy help me much.

later, about 8 o'clock, i was in front of a trailway ticket seller, searching tickets to my home town, i am a little tensity, all chinese knows how difficult to get one trailway ticket in such holiday like Spring Festival, 5.1 labor day and 10.1 National Day, and yestoday i did same thing for 4.30's ticket and be told they were all sell out. this time i ask for K282 and K360 first, seller telled me no tickets left, then i asked for any tickets that can carry me home. after long time operating on computer, she telled me there was one, some train i nerver heared, i think it's a template train. i said "OK" without any thinking. just sevral second, she said "can not find" which means the ticket was bought by another person in another place. i was silense, thought about what can i do, i want to be home. another 1 or 2 second past, the seller confirmed and telled me that the ticket still there, then she selled it to me. thanks great God. i got the ticket. during left time i walked to the office, i song lightly.

4月12日 feeling changed sometimes i am realy like a baby.
today is linda's birthday, linda is the girl who make me blue for several days. yestoday i told her i want to cheer her birthday. i know she does not like me, won't meet me again. i said "if let me cheer your birthday, i will disappear for whole year", and she said "no". my heart ache again, tears went out of my eyes. I have never had such strong a feeling that want to cheer someone's birthday, sit beside her, blow candles together, sing "happy birthday" for her and bless her with my heart. Many people believe love is a sensation that magically generates when Mr. or Ms. Right appears. No wonder so many people are single. An excerpt from "Head to Heart."(篇首语)
A few years ago, I spoke to a group of high-schoolers about the Jewish idea of love.
"Someone define love," I said.
No response.
"Doesn't anyone want to try?" I asked.
Still no response.
"Tell you what: I'll define it, and you raise your hands if you agree. Okay?"
Nods.
"Okay. Love is that feeling you get when you meet the right person."
Every hand went up. And I thought, Oy.
This is how many people approach a relationship. Consciously or unconsciously, they believe love is a sensation (based on physical and emotional attraction) that magically, spontaneously generates when Mr. or Ms. Right appears. And just as easily, it can spontaneously degenerate when the magic "just isn't there" anymore. You fall in love, and you can fall out of it.
The key word is passivity. Erich Fromm, in his famous treatise "The Art of Loving," noted the sad consequence of this misconception: "There is hardly any activity, any enterprise, which is started with such tremendous hopes and expectations, and yet, which fails so regularly, as love." (That was back in 1956 -- chances are he'd be even more pessimistic today.)
So what is love -- real, lasting love?
Love is the attachment that results from deeply appreciating another's goodness.(first idea)
The word "goodness" may surprise you. After all, most love stories don't feature a couple enraptured with each other's ethics. ("I'm captivated by your values!" he told her passionately. "And I've never met a man with such morals!" she cooed.) But in her study of real-life successful marriages ("The Good Marriage: How and Why Love Lasts"), Judith Wallerstein reports that "the value these couples placed on the partner's moral qualities was an unexpected finding."
To the Jewish mind, it isn't unexpected at all. What we value most in ourselves, we value most in others. God created us to see ourselves as good (hence our need to either rationalize or regret our wrongdoings). So, too, we seek goodness in others. Nice looks, an engaging personality, intelligence, and talent (all of which count for something) may attract you, but goodness is what moves you to love.
LOVE IS A CHOICE(second idea)
If love comes from appreciating goodness, it needn't just happen -- you can make it happen. Love is active. You can create it. Just focus on the good in another person (and everyone has some). If you can do this easily, you'll love easily.
I was once at an intimate concert in which the performer, a deeply spiritual person, gazed warmly at his audience and said, "I want you to know, I love you all." I smiled tolerantly and thought, "Sure." Looking back, though, I realize my cynicism was misplaced. This man naturally saw the good in others, and our being there said enough about us that he could love us. Judaism actually idealizes this universal, unconditional love.
Obviously, there's a huge distance from here to the far more profound, personal love developed over the years, especially in marriage. But seeing goodness is the beginning.
Susan learned about this foundation of love after becoming engaged to David. When she called her parents to tell them the good news, they were elated. At the end of the conversation, her mother said, "Darling, I want you to know we love you, and we love David."
Susan was a bit dubious. "Mom," she said hesitantly, "I really appreciate your feelings, but, in all honesty, how can you say you love someone you've never met?"
"We're choosing to love him," her mother explained, "because love is a choice."
There's no better wisdom Susan's mother could have imparted to her before marriage. By focusing on the good, you can love almost anyone.
ACTIONS AFFECT FEELINGS(third idear)
Now that you're feeling so warmly toward the entire human race, how can you deepen your love for someone? The way God created us, actions affect our feelings most. For example, if you want to become more compassionate, thinking compassionate thoughts may be a start, but giving tzedaka (charity) will get you there. Likewise, the best way to feel loving is to be loving -- and that means giving.
While most people believe love leads to giving, the truth (as Rabbi Eliyahu Dessler writes in his famous discourse on loving kindness) is exactly the opposite: Giving leads to love.
What is giving? When an enthusiastic handyman happily announces to his non- mechanically inclined wife, "Honey, wait till you see what I got you for your birthday -- a triple-decker toolbox!" that's not giving. Neither is a father's forcing violin lessons on his son because he himself always dreamed of being a virtuoso.
True giving, as Erich Fromm points out, is other-oriented, and requires four elements. The first is care, demonstrating active concern for the recipient's life and growth. The second is responsibility, responding to his or her expressed and unexpressed needs (particularly, in an adult relationship, emotional needs). The third is respect, "the ability to see a person as he [or she] is, to be aware of his [or her] unique individuality," and, consequently, wanting that person to "grow and unfold as he [or she] is." These three components all depend upon the fourth, knowledge. You can care for, respond to, and respect another only as deeply as you know him or her.
OPENING YOURSELF TO OTHERS(last idea:what should we do)
The effect of genuine, other-oriented giving is profound. It allows you into another person's world and opens you up to perceiving his or her goodness. At the same time, it means investing part of yourself in the other, enabling you to love this person as you love yourself.
Many years ago, I met a woman whom I found very unpleasant. So I decided to try out the "giving leads to love" theory. One day I invited her for dinner. A few days later I offered to help her with a personal problem. On another occasion I read something she'd written and offered feedback and praise. Today we have a warm relationship. The more you give, the more you love. This is why your parents (who've given you more than you'll ever know) undoubtedly love you more than you love them, and you, in turn, will love your own children more than they'll love you.
Because deep, intimate love emanates from knowledge and giving, it comes not overnight but over time -- which nearly always means after marriage. The intensity many couples feel before marrying is usually great affection boosted by commonality, chemistry, and anticipation. These may be the seeds of love, but they have yet to sprout. On the wedding day, emotions run high, but true love should be at its lowest, because it will hopefully always be growing, as husband and wife give more and more to each other.
A woman I know once explained why she's been happily married for 25 years. "A relationship has its ups and downs," she told me. "The downs can be really low -- and when you're in one, you have three choices: Leave, stay in a loveless marriage, or choose to love your spouse."
Dr. Jill Murray (author of "But I Love Him: Protecting Your Daughter from Controlling, Abusive Dating Relationships") writes that if someone mistreats you while professing to love you, remember: "Love is a behavior." A relationship thrives when partners are committed to behaving lovingly through continual, unconditional giving -- not only saying, "I love you," but showing it.

After watching the TV program talk what hot weather feels like. Ask the students to describe a hot place, including features like plants, animals etc. Write or draw three good things and three bad things about hot weather.
The Sun
Ask students to brainstorm everything they know about the Sun. Record their understandings on a large sheet of paper or a whiteboard. Imagine what would happen if the Sun did not shine. Talk about what would be different in their day to day lives. Ask the children to choose one thing that would be different and express it in a painting. After the children have labelled their paintings, display it as a gallery.
Ask the children to design and conduct an experiment to show how plants need the Sun. Use seedlings, pots, soil and water.
Five senses
Make a list of hot things inside and outside. Talk about how people can use their senses to tell when something is hot. Sun safety
Talk about why its important to protect ourselves from the Sun. Ask the children to imagine that they have been asked to design a slippery dip that can be safely used in hot weather. Draw or make 3D models with junk materials. Ask the children to show and explain their design to a small group. CLOTHES WE WEAR IN HOT WEATHER
In the TV program, Stan tries to decide what to wear on a hot day. Draw a picture of Stan and the clothes he chooses to wear. Children can talk about what they like to wear in hot weather, and why! Make a collection of different articles of clothing, eg scarf, sunhat, gloves, bathers, jumper. Ask the children to compare the clothes. Consider why some clothes and not others are good to wear in hot weather.
Talk about the difference between wearing light and dark coloured clothing in hot weather. Look through books and magazines for pictures of people wearing light coloured clothing in hot weather.
Observe cloud patterns in the sky and keep a cloud picture diary, using symbols for the different types of clouds. Record when it rains and talk about the cloud patterns and movement. Incorporate these findings into your daily classroom weather forecast.
FOOD WE EAT - IN HOT WEATHER
In the TV program we see an ice-cream melting on a hot day. Use a tape recorder and ask the students to take it in turns to describe how they eat their favourite ice-cream. Listen to their comments and ask the children to guess who is speaking! Discuss why it is important to drink water in hot weather. Conduct a class survey and make a picture graph of the most popular cool drinks.
Recall some of the comments that children in the TV program made about the foods they like to eat in hot weather. Students to bring different fruits and vegetables. Make a variety of mixed salads to share. Create new names for each salad. Use a video recorder to tape children preparing, eating and talking about their salad creations.
Discuss the local availability of different fruits and vegetables during hot weather, eg are there lots of stone fruits, like peaches, in the shops when it is hot weather? Students to make plasticine models of their favourite fruit. Write a sentence to describe its taste.
THINGS WE DO - IN HOT WEATHER
Recall the scene from the TV program where Bianca is lying on her bed reading a book. Talk about why our bodies can sometimes feel tired in hot weather.
Recall the graphic showing how blood flows close to the surface when a person is hot. Ask students to wear appropriate clothing for a run outside. Look in a mirror before and after the run. Talk about any differences they can see and feel in their bodies. Talk about how they might look and feel if the outside temperature was different.
Recall the different ways people in the TV program kept cool, eg: children playing in water, elderly couple sitting in the shade. Brainstorm as many different ways to stay cool on a hot day. Make a large 'inside and outside' picture book. Students can write sentences and draw pictures to describe different ways to stay cool inside and outside.
Brainstorm a list of sports that are played in hot weather. Design and make posters to show how people who play sport can keep cool in hot weather, eg: drink lots of water, wipe their neck with a wet towel.
PLANTS AND ANIMALS - IN HOT WEATHER
Recall the different animals shown in the TV program. Talk about how they adapt to hot weather. Students to draw one animal from the TV program and write a question and answer about it. Question: How does a pelican keep cool? Answer: It pants. Display their work on a board. Ask the children to recall and describe the cacti plants. Compare the cacti plants from the TV program with a plant in the school grounds. Bring a cactus to school for the children to study. Talk about and observe its special features that enable it to adapt to hot weather, eg: tiny hairs, grooves and pointy spines.
